Every now and then an opportunity comes along that just feels right. When the Joplin Humane Society reached out about their "Super Fast and the Furriest" 5K, saying yes was an easy call. I volunteered my time to photograph the event because these animals and the people who show up for them deserve to have that day remembered.
The energy at the starting line was something else. Dogs of every size pulling at their leashes, kids laughing, runners stretching... all of it wrapped up in that contagious excitement that only a crowd of people and their best friends can create. I did my best to capture not just the race itself but the moments in between... the ones that tell the real story of why events like this matter.
The Joplin Humane Society does quiet, important work every single day. They take in animals that need a second chance and connect them with families who will love them. Events like this one give the community a chance to show up and celebrate that mission, and it was genuinely an honor to be a small part of it.
